Cark in Cartmel, at the southern tip of the Lake District and close to the shores of Morcambe Bay is today a charming, quiet village just a mile from Cartmel itself, home to the famous racecourse and priory. But Cark wasnt always so peaceful as it was once, in the 18th and 19th centuries, a bustling centre for the nearby mills and associated industries.
