Accommodation overview: Situated in an idyllic rural position is Skellgill House in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This wonderful Dales farmhouse has to be Escape to the Country at its best, it even has the meandering Skellgill Beck trickling through the gardens, whilst the sheep graze the fells beyond. The house itself is extremely spacious and welcoming, keeping that warm, traditional and inviting feeling that you would hope a dales farmhouse would offer. The traditionally presented lounge offers a cosy open fire where you can relax those tired muscles after enjoying a day on the hills, or, perhaps fine dining is your forte, where better to enjoy dinner than in the wonderful spacious dining room adorned with the most beautiful original stone fireplace, high beamed ceilings and yet more picture postcard views. The space and welcoming features continue throughout the house, traditional, unspoilt and homely. Outside, the traditional cottage gardens continue to offer space and tranquillity, with lawn areas, seating areas and the wonderful beck in such stunning surroundings. Accommodation overview: Hillside Farm details
Hillside Farm is a detached farmhouse set in beautiful countryside in the heart of the North York Moors National park with stunning views of the sea and Whitby a few miles away. It acts as the lodge of an actively managed moorland estate.
The property is two miles from Sleights where there is a pub and hotel (both of which serve food), a fish and chip restaurant, a very good butcher/delicatessen, general store (usually open until 10pm) and local bakers.
The Yorkshire Esk, located approximately 2 miles away, is one of the most prolific sea trout rivers in England and is the only salmon river between London and the Tees. Salmon and Sea Trout fishing is available on the best beat by special prior arrangement with the owner (who also owns Hillside Farmhouse) from 6th April to 31st October.
The area benefits from exceptional walking with the Coast to Coast and Cleveland Way paths nearby. Hillside Farm is a good base from which to enjoy the Yorkshire coast with Whitby, Sandsend and Robin Hood's Bay all nearby. Mountain biking at nearby Dalby Forest is world class. Grosmont, the North York Moors Railway and Goathland (of 'Heartbeat' fame) are all within easy reach.
