Located in Scotland s central Highlands on the famous whisky trail lying just 6 miles south of the stunning Moray Firth coastline with the city of Elgin only 2 miles away with its beautiful cathedral array of shops pubs restaurants and train station making this a fantastic base for your holiday. Close by Gordonstoun beautiful sandy beaches of Burghead and Lossiemouth with award winning golf course Forres Brodie Castle Aberlour House Cawdor Castle the beautiful town of Nairn and the famous Aviemore are all within easy reach. The accommodation offers THREE bedrooms: all on the first floor and with stunning views 1 spacious king-size 1 spacious twin and 1 single. Bathroom: on the ground floor large room with shower over bath and WC. Further WC on first floor. Lounge: overlooking front garden with woodburner (first basket of logs included) TV/DVD Freeview hi-fi and ample seating. Accommodation overview: Cowrie Cottage is a pretty, traditional stone fishermans cottage situated just a few steps from beaches of Portknockie. The cottage takes its name from the cowrie shell, which is avidly searched for and can be found on the nearby shoreline. Cowries have been valued for centuries in many parts of the world. In China and Africa they were used as currency (the Chinese character for money is a cowrie shaped shell) and these marine gastropods are still sought by collectors today. There is a collection of these tiny, ribbed shells left in the cottage and visitors are welcome to add to the collection (or take their finds home as a unique memento!). The caring owners have upgraded and refurbished this lovely cottage over the years and it now provides a high standard of accommodation, whilst retaining many attractive original features, including stripped pine doors. With sleeping accommodation for 6 people, together with two lounges and a separate dining room, it offers an ideal holiday for a larger family or combined holiday. Short Breaks not available in the Summer.
