Accommodation overview: Cowrie Cottage is a pretty, traditional stone fishermans cottage situated just a few steps from beaches of Portknockie. The cottage takes its name from the cowrie shell, which is avidly searched for and can be found on the nearby shoreline. Cowries have been valued for centuries in many parts of the world. In China and Africa they were used as currency (the Chinese character for money is a cowrie shaped shell) and these marine gastropods are still sought by collectors today. There is a collection of these tiny, ribbed shells left in the cottage and visitors are welcome to add to the collection (or take their finds home as a unique memento!). The caring owners have upgraded and refurbished this lovely cottage over the years and it now provides a high standard of accommodation, whilst retaining many attractive original features, including stripped pine doors. With sleeping accommodation for 6 people, together with two lounges and a separate dining room, it offers an ideal holiday for a larger family or combined holiday.

Accommodation overview: Drifter Cottage is a little gem situated in a quiet backwater in the charming coastal village of Portsoy. Originally a fishermans cottage, it takes its name from the Drifters or herring boats that were built and used for many years along this stretch of coast. This sweet, single storey stone and slate cottage has been lovingly refurbished and offers bright, attractive and surprisingly spacious accommodation for two in the heart of this quaint old fishing village. There is a cosy lounge with feature wood burner effect fire as well as a good sized separate dining room. The bright, well equipped, modern kitchen opens out to a pretty patio garden area, with attractive flower border, fully enclosed with small stone wall. Accommodation overview: This delightful traditional fisherman's cottage is one of a terrace of three built in the unique local "gable to sea" style. The cottage is in a truly delightful setting just across the road from the waters of the Moray Firth, where dolphins play and fishing boats come and go. A short walk along this shoreline is a sandy beach and the Strathlene links golf course, while on the higher level of the village are local shops and inns.
Portessie is adjacent to the bustling deep sea fishing port of Buckie which has excellent facilities and is one of a string of picturesque old fishing villages, each with its own character and each worth visiting. All along the coast are links golf courses, sheltered beaches, rocky coves and spectacular cliffs, while inland are pretty little market towns set amidst fertile farmland, the Speyside Whisky Trail and the Aberdeenshire Castle Trail. Aberdeen and Inverness, both of which have international airports, are within an hour's drive. Outdoor activities include angling, bird watching, walking, cycling, golf and riding.
