Accommodation overview: A mere mile from the newly developed and renowned Grizedale Forest Visitors Centre, Satterthwaite is an ideal location for those energetic guests who enjoying walking, cycling and generally the great outdoors. Go out of the front door and take 10 paces and your on one of Grizedales major cycling/walking routes, with the benefit of being able to pop into the new cafe at the Visitors Centre which serves fantastic food, beer, wine and soft drinks for the kids. You can experience Go Ape and for the little ones, there is a fantastic activity area with climbing frames etc. The village is small, yet friendly and you are sure to get a warm welcome at the local watering hole, which is particularly cosy in the winter with its big open fire. Within 4/5 miles you have the nearby villages of Hawkshead (perhaps visit via a great walk through the forest) and Coniston which are also fine examples of Lakeland villages, both with a good deal of attractions for all the family, from Beatrix Potters home to the Ruskin Museum . Winnowing Barn, a former bank barn, sits at the edge of the village, in a small quiet courtyard, and is arranged over three floors. The new owners have refurbished the property to a high standard and have ensured that modern fittings (including the addition of wireless broadband) combine well with the traditional features creating a warm, homely feel throughout. Fine views can be enjoyed from the lounge and front bedrooms, and the enclosed rear patio is sure to be put to good use on many occasions.

Accommodation overview: Four miles South of Hawkshead and midway between Coniston Water and Lake Windermere lies the small, quiet village of Satterthwaite. Satterthwaite retains a real sense of rural community, village life revolving around the green, All Saints Church and the traditional pub, The Eagles Head. The area offers wonderful walking, biking and bird watching opportunities and the famous Visitor Centre at Grizedale Forest has ample to entertain the whole family. Wain Garth is in the centre of the village, in the very heart of rural life and has fabulous uniterrupted views across the central lake ranges. Accommodation overview: Force Mill is in a lovely location for a family country holiday, surrounded by farmland, forest, a stream and nearby waterfall (Force) which gives it its name. Go south for Rusland Woods, Fell Foot, the Haverthwaite Steam Railway and the Windermere Cruises; North for Grizedale Centre (the Go-Ape experience) - safe cycle trails, forest walks and the more rugged fells. Coniston and Brantwood are a good days walk there and back. At home you can enjoy the large enclosed garden, well-furnished and with fine views and ample safe parking. Accommodation overview: Taking its name from the rather steep area of woodland near where it sits, Breasty Haw is a wonderful example of a traditional, detached Lakeland cottage. The setting is idyllic as not only does Breasty Haw enjoy fine views across the valley but the house is situated in the middle of its own acre of mature woodland for guests to explore. With Grizedale Forest and ample walks and cycling routes right from the doorstep, Satterthwaite is an ideal base for an activity based holiday with the kids although the area also has some wonderful, gentle walks for those who prefer a quieter pace and some rest and relaxation.
