Accommodation overview: Taking its name from the delightful outlook across an open meadow and to the fells beyond, Meadow Cottage in Staveley is an ideal base for those who prefer to be on the fringes of the busier resorts, yet only minutes away by car. The village has a host of excellent pubs and interesting outlets from cycle shops to woodturning and is at the foot of the Kentmere Valley which is rich in wildlife. Kingfishers can be seen above the weir at the edge of the village in pursuit of salmon leaping on their journey up river and head of the valley has been a nesting area of the golden eagle in past years. Accommodation overview: Burrow Cottage, part of the former Burrow Hall dates back to the 18th century and is midway between the medieval town of Kendal (3 miles) and the popular resorts of Windermere and Bowness (6 miles). The location, just off the A591 is ideal for touring both the Lake and Dales. Staveley is a mile away and has a great selection of traditional pubs, most serving homemade food and local ales. Of course, your pet is also most welcome here at Burrow Cottage and plenty of opportunities for lovely long walks are on hand and for those anglers among you, Ratherheath Tarn, well stocked with carp, perch and bream is very close by.
