Accommodation overview: Sedbergh is set to the West of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the eastern fells of the Lake District, only 30 minutes drive from Windermere and is therefore ideal for exploring both areas of unspoilt and protected countryside. Sedbergh has a variety of narrow lanes and small clusters of old buildings including a 12th century Norman church (restored in 1886) and, overlooking the town, is the site of Castlehaw, an ancient motte and bailey castle. However Sedbergh has a new status, Book Town for England, and as such has a growing number of book shops, both new and second hand and is set to evolve over the coming months and years into a literary paradise.

Stag Cottage is a 4 Star Gold Award winning peaceful self-contained 17th century sandstone cottage set in the grounds of Melmerby Hall. It has separate private front and rear gardens, parking and entranceway. Recently restored, it retains its period features such as stone mullion windows and an inglenook fireplace.
The private garden has a sandstone patio and built-in barbecue. There is a connecting passage between Melmerby Hall and Stag Cottage and lockable soundproof doors to respect guest privacy.
Guests have access to a free swimming voucher programme with the Tower House indoor pool in the village of Melmerby which is a short walk from the property. Accommodation overview: The cottage, previously a clog makers workshop adjoins the owners home, Galloway House, dating back to the 1720’s which until recently was the village pub. Now a cosy 1 bedroom holiday cottage, Galloway Cottage is situated in the village of Crosby, 1 mile from the Cumbrian coast and 2 miles from the harbour town of Maryport. The beach is a fantastic place to walk your dog with views across the Solway to the Scottish Hills. Good food and drink is available at the Stag Inn, within 400 yards. Maryport has a Sea Life Centre, museums, a marina and a selection of shops. The seaside town of Allonby is approximately 4 miles and the spectacular Lake District Park is on the doorstep.
