Accommodation overview: Ferny Howe is tucked away behind the main thoroughfare of the village, close to the park and is well placed for sampling all that Ambleside has to offer. An exciting array of bars and restaurants, interesting shops and good walking opportunities are available from the door and with private parking for up to 3 cars, there is little need to use your vehicle when holidaying at Ferny Howe. The property is very well presented and retains a good number of interesting original features throughout including stripped doors and picture rails and even the original bell system from the Victorian times. Accommodation overview: This traditional cottage dates back to the 18th century, set in the Heart of walkers paradise Rosthwaite with the fells circumscribing the village at the foot of the Borrowdale Valley. The property oozes olde worlde charm with each room having original beams Nokka still retains its slate flagged floor. Nokka was originally a yeomans or statesmans house ( farmhouse) and following that it became an inn. In 1769 the poet Thomas Gray went on a tour of the lakes and Nokka is mentioned in his Journal which was published in1775 after his death in 1771. In more recent times Nokka was drawn by A Wainwright and can be seen in his book The Coast to Coast Walk.

Crosthwaite and her surrounding area is an excellent location for enjoying some wonderful walking amidst blossom filled hedgerows in the summer from which the local speciality gin is produced and enjoyed by many a tourist and local. The orchard gardens surrounding the property are awash with damsons in late summer. Some fine country pubs can be found in these parts The Punch Bowl in Crosthwaite itself, within easy walking distance of Dodds Howe is an award winning gastro pub serving Michelin Star Food and traditional ales.

The cottage enjoys fine views of the river and the Fairfield fell range beyond and being so centrally situated, guests can enjoy some wonderful walking for all abilities straight from the door as well as all that this rather romantic village has to offer.
