Accommodation overview: These attractive holiday cottages have been carefully renovated from former barns, and have kept many of their original features including exposed stonework. They enjoy a perfect location on the banks of the River Avon, and on the edge of the picturesque village of Bathampton, which is 2 miles from the centre of Bath. The Kennet and Avon Canal also runs through the village, enabling walkers and cyclists to easily access Bath and beyond, enjoying the pubs and tea shops along the way. Boat trips can also be taken on the river and canal. Designated as a World Heritage Site, Bath presents some of the finest architectural sights in Europe, such as the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge. At the heart of the city next to Bath Abbey is the Roman Baths, which gives a fascinating look into the Roman bathing complex. There is a good variety of museums and galleries, including the American Museum and the Jane Austen Centre. Festivals, theatre and street entertainment bring life and excitement to this vibrant city, and the Thermae Bath Spa with rooftop pool is a popular attraction. Bath is also a celebrated shopping centre, with many unique and independent retailers, and the variety of restaurants, bars and cafes leave guests spoilt for choice. The setting on the main Holsworthy to Bude road is very convenient for exploring this delightful corner of North Cornwall.
As well as shops, inns, restaurants and its Historical and Folk Museum, Bude has three large sandy beaches popular with surfers (with lifeguard patrol in summer), one with a very large sea-water swimming pool. Its sports facilities include a superb 18-hole golf course, tennis and squash courts, Splash leisure centre and ten pin bowling. Delightful walking can be found nearby on the picturesque North Cornwall Coastal Footpath, and also along the towpath of Bude’s canal (the Planekeepers Path) – 3 miles of quiet level walking of special interest to wildlife and birdlife lovers which begins ½ mile from the property and leads to Summerleaze Beach in Bude. Fishing is also available in the canal (some of the finest coarse fishing waters in the west). Further afield, but within easy driving distance, are the historic coastal villages of Boscastle, Tintagel, Hartland Quay and Clovelly. The well-known Tree Inn at Stratton is 1½ miles, Shop and the Red Post Inn with fish and chips takeaway is ½ mile away.
