Accommodation overview: The Manger details
The Manger was once a stable. Its original stalls, hay rack, troughs and loft have been retained and the necessary modern additions to create a luxury holiday cottage have been gently inserted. The loft stair allows an open aspect through to the apex of the roof. There are lime-washed walls and gentle lighting. The terrace offers uninterrupted views down to the river and stretching several miles along and across the spectacular Yarty River valley with its pattern of small irregular fields and copses.
Enveloped by accessible woodlands, apple orchards and farm fields, The Manger lies at the end of a long, shared drive, amidst hedge-lined winding lanes. Badgers, deer, rabbits, (40 species of moth were counted on a June evening) and various birds of prey are commonly seen. A weir pool with a salmon ladder lies along one of the many footpaths nearby and a bluebell wood is a short walk away. Within five miles there are three superb local family run farm shops, the River Cottage Canteen, and a choice of nearby pubs renowned for good food and beer.
Photography and descriptions can't come close to capturing the scale and loveliness of the surroundings.
